Geoff Muldaur has often said to Outpost Director, Tom Guralnick, that the Outpost Performance Space is one of his favorite venues in which to perform. Whether it’s true or not, Guralnick can unequivocally say that Muldaur is one of his favorite performers to play at the Space, and so he returns whenever it can be arranged. Last heard at Outpost in the Fall of 2019, singer-songwriter, guitarist Geoff Muldaur is one of the great musical forces to emerge from the folk, blues and folk- rock scenes in Cambridge, MA and Woodstock, NY. His magical voice and singular approach to American music make him a true original. Singer-songwriter Richard Thompson wrote, “There are only three white blues singers, and Geoff Muldaur is at least two of them.” Known for a series of highly influential recordings as a founding member of the Jim Kweskin Jug Band and Paul ButterfIeld’s Better Days group, as well as collaborations with hundreds of famed musicians, including his then-wife Maria Muldaur and other notables (Bonnie Raitt, Jerry Garcia and more), Muldaur is also an accomplished composer and arranger. He has composed scores for film and television and produced off-beat albums for the likes of Lenny Pickett and the Borneo Horns and the Richard Greene String Quartet. His definitive recording of “Brazil” provided the seed for – and was featured in – Terry Gilliam’s film of the same title. Muldaur has been featured on a variety of National Public Radio shows and also appeared on Garrison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion. His albums have met with high critical acclaim and feature his unusually crafted interpretations of classic, oftentimes obscure American material as well as his own unique compositions. Hardly quiet during the pandemic, Muldaur used the time to put together his most recent release – an epic project entitled His Last Letter (The Amsterdam Project) on Moon River Music. His most ambitious project to date, he collaborated with some of Holland’s finest classical and jazz musicians and presents stylish renderings of tunes from the American folk and jazz “songbag.” The recordings are available in an exclusive high-end package – a 2-LP boxed set with 40-page booklet that includes exclusive photos, a foreword by composer David Amram, and extensive track-by-track notes and personal stories by Muldaur himself
