Formed in 2009 by pianist Steve Figueroa, Red Hot & Red is a Native-American jazz trio that realizes a long-time dream of his to put together a group of indigenous musicians playing America’s only indigenous art form.  Stylistically, the group plays in the traditional jazz vein with some Afro-Cuban and contemporary jazz influence as well.  A New Mexico native of Laguna pueblo heritage, Steve Figueroa is the son the late trumpeter Connie Figueroa and has been an integral part of the New Mexico music scene for over 20 years.  The group also features acoustic and electric bassist Milo Jaramillo, one of the most versatile and in demand bassists in New Mexico and a native of the Isleta Pueblo, and Louie Speaking Eagle, who hails from El Paso, where he has been a fixture on the local music scene there for many years. He is a Zacatec Indian ceremonial leader and an international Jazz artist and music educator. Red Hot & Red were most recently featured at the Placitas Winery in a fundraiser for KUPR Radio.
