Grammy nominated harmonica player, singer-songwriter, bandleader and author Mark Hummel, who Blues Revue Magazine called “a Harmonica God,” has, for nearly five decades, defined the West Coast blues sound. He formed the Blues Survivors in 1977 with Mississippi Johnny Waters and has performed alongside Charles Brown, James Cotton, Charlie Musselwhite and Willie “Big Eyes” Smith. Hummel’s recent release, Harpbreaker (2018), an all-instrumental harmonica album, “redefines the scope and beauty of what the instrument is capable of in the right hands.” The Blues Survivors are guitarist Johnny Cat Soulbrand; bassist Randy Bermudes; and drummer Gary Silva.
