Time

7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Two of the most vivid voices in “modern-Delta”blues  (Rolling Stone) team up for a special show entitled True Blues. Featuring blues singer, guitarist and MacArthur Grant recipient Corey Harris, along with along with Cedric Watson, who is considered one of Louisiana’s foremost purveyors of Creole music and culture, True Blues comprises an evening of music and conversation “that chronicles the extraordinary living culture of the blues, bringing to life this crucial wellspring of American music and showing the blues and it’s African tributaries as the blueprint for virtually all-American popular music today.” Corey Harris, who has carved out his own imprint in blues history, has performed, recorded, and toured with many of the top names in music such as BB King, Taj Mahal, Buddy Guy, R.L.Burnside, Dave Matthews Band, Tracy Chapman, and Wilco, among others, and was a featured artist and narrator of the 2003 Martin Scorsese documentary episode, Feel Like Going Home— one of seven episodes in Scorsese’s PBS documentary series simply called, The Blues. Written by renowned music critic, author, and biographer, Peter Guralnick (Outpost Director Tom Guralnick’s brother), Feel Like Going Home (which takes its name from Peter’s book of the same name) traces the evolution of blues from West Africa to the southern U.S. One of the brightest young talents to emerge in Cajun, Creole and Zydeco (Louisiana French) music over the last decade, Cedric Watson—a four-time Grammy-nominated fiddler, singer, accordionist, and songwriter plays everything from forgotten Creole melodies and obscure Dennis McGee reels, to more modern Cajun and Zydeco songs, as well as bluegrass fiddle and old string band tunes. He delighted audiences at the 2014 New Mexico Jazz Festival at a performance in Old Town and returned with this band Bijou Creole in fall 2019 to perform at Outpost. His albums have been called “a tapestry of pulsing rhythms and Creole poetry, and his live performances are unforgettable, all at once progressive and nostalgic.”

The event is finished.
